MASOC Professional Listserv

A Letter from our Executive Director

The MASOC Listserv is a free email group that we hope will provide an important connection for professionals working with young people with problematic sexual behaviors.

We know that this work can sometimes be hard and isolating. We hope that this format will allow all of us to engage in conversations regarding general challenges and barriers faced by these youth and families, exchange ideas about current research and best practices, and share available resources for on-going education, training, and professional networking. Most important, we hope that the listserv will help to create a feeling of community among the many professionals doing this important work.

The forum is open to all professionals and everyone is welcome. However, we want to be clear that this is not a place for parents or families to receive online counseling services and support. In the event that a parent or other interested individual is seeking information about the location of a service provider, we would kindly refer them to our Directory of Providers.

MASOC is pleased to offer this vehicle for ongoing dialogue. In providing this type of forum, MASOC agrees to maintain responsibility for ensuring that the listserv is functional free of charge. We also welcome your feedback and strongly encourage your participation, questions, thoughts, and favorite resources.

Most of all, we hope that many of you find it a useful (and fun) professional tool!

MASOC Listserv Rules

  1. Postings with person opinions may not be shared with or forwarded to others and should not be quoted in part or in whole, without explicit permission from the writer making the original post.
  2. Posts to the listserv may not include private email addresses of others without their express permission.
  3. Posting to the listserv which advertise a product for purchase or a paid training should not be posted excessively.
  4. If there is any uncertainty or confusion about what may or may not be posted, listserv members should contact one of the moderators.
  5. Postings to the listerve that are appropriate and in the spirit of the listserv, include:
    • General postings that pose questions or respond to questions and comments from other list members, or raise general issues and questions for discussion pertinent to work with children and adolescents who engage in sexually abusive or troubled sexual behavior.
    • Postings that build a network by sharing ideas, information, and resources relevant to the work list members do.
    • Postings that introduce members to the work or provide support and/or mentoring experiences.
    • Postings that are self-promotional in the event that members wish to inform other list members of a product or service, such a publication, workshop or training, or other information. However, such postings must take into account and be sensitive to rule 3, above.
    • Postings in which list members may ask and respond to questions regarding professional practice management and services provided, in order to support network building and collaboration.
    • Notice of professional work opportunities including vacant professional positions, grant notifications, RFPs, etc., that are relevant to clinical, research, teaching, and administrative work with children and adolescents who engage in sexually abusive or troubled sexual behavior.
    • Posts in which members are seeking work opportunities, or informing members of other professionals seeking work opportunities in the field.
    • Postings that seek referrals for client services, and responses to such posts.
  6. Posts that discuss cases are appropriate, but must maintain confidentiality at all times.
  7. Professional consideration of and courtesy for differing opinions is expected at all times. In their posts to the list, members are expected to adhere to accepted professional protocol and etiquette and to avoid intemperate or negative emotional responses.
  8. Violation of protocol or guidelines may result in temporary or permanent suspension from the listserv. If the violation is considered to be of a more serious nature, the matter may be referred to the MASOC Board of Directors for further action.
